We’ve told you about great deals on WOW airlines (Iceland’s budget carrier) in the past, but every time we think we’ve seen their best offer, they come up with another one that completely amazes us. For example: Today’s deal offers 30% off fares to Reykjavik with prices starting at just $70 for spring travel to Iceland. Want to stay closer to home? Jet Blue has a $44 and up sale this week, too!
Making plans to visit Walt Disney World or Orlando this summer or the coming 2017/2018 school year? You’ve come to the right place! I just got back from a whirlwind trip around the “World” and was able to try out all the top new rides, attractions, and shows at Disney that families will want to see this summer and beyond.
Q: Hi Playground! I’m taking the kids to Orlando for Memorial Day weekend and I want us each to take a carry-on bag. I’m concerned both about the cost of checking bags for a family of four and also of waiting for our bags after a late arriving flight in Orlando. We’re flying United, which has a carry on luggage size limit of 22″ x 14″ x 9″, but every bag I’ve looked at online and in person has measured larger than this, despite being labeled as 20″ or 21″ bags. Will these still be okay? Thanks in advance for your thoughts! ~ Jennifer
Q: Hi Playground, Are you still up on the Walt Disney World scene? We’re finally taking our son, now 9, before he’s too old (it’s borderline already). My husband researched and we’re wondering about either spending more money on a resort that might be fun in itself, or going for something like an inexpensive condo that would just be a comfortable place to sleep. One option we thought was fun was Animal Kingdom Lodge, but do you think it’s worth $400 a night when the attraction is the parks? Or is it valuable to take it easy for a day or several half days and enjoy a resort setting? Thanks! ~ Allie T.
Ever since the launch of Pokémon Go in early July, your kids have most likely been wandering around the local park with their eyes on their mobile device, trying to catch “rare” Pokémon, all the while trying to convince you of the wonderful benefits (We’re outside! We’re getting exercise!) of the digital phenomenon. We feel you. But instead of fighting the viral location-based game, we’re trying to embrace it, by adding on some Poké-fun to our next vacation.
From Arizona to New Zealand, it turns out, Pikachu and friends are showing up in family-friendly hotels and resorts all around the world (not to mention the parks and shops near them). While we’re not saying to plan a family vacation based solely on capturing an elusive Magnemite, you might just become the coolest parent ever if you just happen to mention there’s a Meowth hanging in the lobby of your Orlando hotel.
Here a few spots around the country who have mapped out their Poké guests. Happy hunting!

Q: We have a week off for a Presidents’ Day winter break from school and I haven’t planned anything yet. Is it too late for something like London or Orlando? Where would you recommend from the New York area for a February family vacation? –Melissa R.
