Q: Hi Playground! I’m planning a big first airplane trip with my 9-year-old son, departing from the Philadelphia area. Trying to decide between a summer adventure to Portland, Oregon, or an early winter getaway to Puerto Rico. What do you think? ~ Thanks! LK Berry
#TBT: Georgette’s oldest daughter on her first family vacation at Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard, 2004. She wasn’t so sure about the beach, but learned to love it.

Q: We’re heading to Oahu over the summer and would love to find a beachside hotel in Waikiki. Any suggestions? Thanks! ~ FM
A: Hi FM, Hawaii is beach paradise, and Waikiki is among the best known, and most beautiful sandy spots on Oahu. But not all hotels are directly on the beach.
Q: Hi Playground: Do you have any ideas for a sweet 16 trip for late April spring break? It will be four of us: My daughter and her friend and me and the other mom. The girls want somewhere warm with a beach and other kids their age and we’d be there 3-4 nights. The girls are interested in Atlantis, the moms were hoping for something not quite as hectic. ~ Thank you! Shari S.
Q: Hi, I’m planning a spring break in California. We’d love to go to Palm Springs, but it turns out that the Coachella music festival takes place around the same dates. Can we still make it work? And do you think two teen boys (14 and 18) will like the California desert? ~ Thanks! MR
Q: Hi Playground! My family (two daughters in middle and high school, my husband and I) are going to Belize for Spring Break and wanted to see if you have any tips before we go. Anything special we should see or do while we’re there? Thanks ~ CS
Georgette and Melissa took a trip around the world this weekend, without having to leave the NYC area! We attended the New York Times Travel Show at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan. We sat through panels, chatted with travel experts, sifted through brochures, and got the skinny on everything cool in family travel for 2017.
