Q: Hi Playground, Are there any new family resorts in the Cancun, Mexico, area you recommend? Trying to plan a spring break trip. Thanks, Kate.

A: Hi Kate, Cancun is definitely a hot spot for new hotels and resorts that cater to families. Here are a few that are currently on my radar:

The Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort is located between Cancun and Playa de Carmen and just opened in early November, right next to its sister property Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort, which guests have full access to. It’s a pool paradise, with swim up suites, infinity pools, and a kids’ pool complete with water slides and caves. There’s also beach fun with kayaks, paddle boards, boogie boards, beach volleyball courts, hobie cat rides and wind surfers are all available and onsite for all parents and children.  Plus, there’s baby-sitting services, a Kid’s and a Teen’s club.

The Hyatt Ziva in Cancun opened about a year ago and is getting great reviews. It’s an upscale all-inclusive with a dolphin program as well as a plethora of water sports.

A little further down the coast is what’s sure to be the hottest opening on the Riviera Maya this year for families: The Hotel Xcaret, a 900-suite, all-inclusive resort that direct access to the Xcaret’s ecofriendly interactive parks offering everything from cave diving to nighttime jungle jeep exploration, riverboat fiestas to live Mayan cultural performances.

Happy travels!
