Day Trip: Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square

Ripley's Believe It or Not - Times Square

Shrunken heads, secret passageways, taxidermy rodents, and a John Lennon portrait created with dog hair —  these oddities are just a sampling of the collection on view at  Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square in NYC. Combine these with bizarre facts and fun interactive exhibits, and you’ve got a great Day Trip with your tweens and teens.

Ripley’s one-of-kind attraction is perfect for families who love the unusual, the unexpected, and sometimes even the unbelievable. Whether you’re a local and want to be a tourist in your own city for the day or are visiting New York City for the first time, it’s a fun, and let’s face it kitschy (in the best possible way), experience.

Here’s a peak at my girls, 9 and 12, and my husband checking out the exhibits and the collection of more than 500 unusual artifacts from all over the world. Consensus: a fun, weird, entertaining outing!

Where to Eat

There are tons of restaurant options nearby (it’s Times Square!), but here are a couple of our family-friendly eatery recommendations:

  • Carmine’s (200 West 44th Street) offers great Italian food served family style with a side of that quintessential NYC feel.
  • John’s Pizzeria (260 W 44th Street), famous for it’s “No Slices” rule and awesome thin crust, is nearby and always a family favorite.
  • Craving burgers? If you don’t mind a long line, you could head to Shake Shack (8th Avenue & 44th Street) or choose HB Burger (127 West 43rd Street) for great burgers and really good beer.

Want to make it a full Theater District day? What not see a Broadway play while you’re in the city?
