Just a little over an hour away from my home in Montclair, NJ, is a little slice of the French Riviera on the Jersey Shore. And I had no idea. That is, until last weekend when I was invited to be a guest for the day at Avenue Le Club.
I left the kids with my husband and invited my good friend Carrie to come with me to experience a luxurious day at the Beach Club. And luxurious it was.
The modern, private beach club in Long Branch offers an elegant, European-style setting right in the Garden State. In addition to enjoying your own relaxing area of the beach, becoming a member of Avenue Le Club will give you amenities such as chic cabanas furnished with beds, televisions, showers stocked with Mario Badescu toiletries, and patio tables for dining.
You’ll also get access to the rooftop pool, which at only 3 feet deep, makes it perfect for dips to cool off, enjoy a cocktail in, or for young kids who want to splash and play.
Then there is the food — my favorite part.
Avenue’s French brasserie restaurant serves truly delicious food and killer cocktails and you get service right to your cabana or chaise lounge. My Avenue Beach Club Salad with grilled shrimp was delicious, as was Carrie’s Greek Salad. And the mimosas were marvelous.
Speaking of service, it was outstanding. From the minute you arrive (you can even valet park for an additional fee) the staff at Avenue Le Club make you feel like your celebrity royalty. Need one of those chic black and white striped umbrellas? At your service. Another fluffy towel? You got it. How about a second round of mimosas? Yes, please!
Today kicks off the Labor Day holiday weekend, the unofficial (and sad) end of summer, but if you start planning next summer’s days at the beach and pool, it may lift your spirits.
A seasonal family membership at Avenue Le Club (Memorial Day to Labor Day) costs $3,000. That includes two parents and any of their children under 25 — a very generous age! Compare that cost to some of local private pool clubs, and it’s competitive, or even a better deal. Plus, you get the beach, which pleases both young and old. Thierry Carrier, Avenue’s General Manager/Director of Operations —who has the best French accent, btw — told me that out of the 90+ memberships, nearly 60 were families with small children.
If you want to just visit for a day or a few days in the summer, Avenue Le Club does offer Day Passes for $50 per guest plus a $250 fee for use of a cabana. (Note: You must purchase the cabana with the day passes.)
