Looking for a Day Trip to get the family movin’ and groovin’ with some good old fashioned fun? Head to a little haven of nostalgia—Florham Park Roller Rink, in Florham Park, NJ.
This wooden-floored rink (circa 1936) is just how you remember rinks when you were a kid. The skates available to rent look like they’re from the 80s, but they also offer modern in-line blades, which my kids find much easier to skate with than the 4-wheel old school kind. There’s a glittering Disco ball, neon lights, a kickin’ soundtrack, and even “ladies only” and “men only” skate times.
The prices seem retro, too. At $6.50-$7.50 per skater for a two hour skate time it’s an affordable family outing. (You will have to pay an additional $4 for skate rentals, unless you have your own.)
Florham Park Roller Rink offers daily public skating sessions, group parties (during public skating times), and private parties. They also offer lessons.

Where to Eat
If you skate up an appetite (and you will) there’s a snack area at the rink, but that too is old school—candy, popcorn, grease-laden pizza, and soda. I suggest you head to a nearby restaurant to refuel. I recommend The Thirsty Turtle, You’ll get really good food and a great beer selection.
